Airtight Heat Seals for Mylar Food Storage Bags, 12 in

A Mylar bag only protects food if it's sealed airtight, and household zip bags or clips don't create that seal. To properly package food in a Mylar bag with oxygen absorbers, it has to be heat sealed. The Harvest Right impulse sealer creates that seal across the top of the bag in seconds.

The 12 in sealing bar handles all of Harvest Right's Mylar bag sizes, and the 13 lb body keeps it steady on the counter. It runs on standard 110V power.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 12 in sealing bar — fits Harvest Right's 6 x 9.75, 8 x 12 and 10 x 14 in bags.
  • Impulse heating — the bar heats only when you press it down to seal.
  • Steady 13 lb build — stays put on the counter while you seal bag after bag.
  • 110V power — plugs into a standard household outlet.

Who Should Use an Impulse Sealer

An impulse sealer is essential for anyone storing freeze-dried food in Mylar bags, whether you're refilling supplies for a home freeze dryer or packaging goods for sale. Growers use it to seal dried herbs and plant material in Mylar.

About the Harvest Right Impulse Sealer

Harvest Right includes an impulse sealer with its Home Pro freeze dryers and sells it separately as a replacement or second sealer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an impulse sealer?
An impulse sealer heats its sealing bar only for a short pulse while the arm is pressed down, melting the bag's inner layers together. Because it doesn't stay hot, it's safer and more energy efficient than a constant-heat sealer. It's the standard tool for sealing Mylar bags.
How do I get a good seal?
Make sure the top of the bag is clean and free of food dust, then press the arm down and hold for the full cycle. Test the seal by gently pulling the bag's sides apart. Adjust the heat setting up or down if seals are weak or the bag melts through.
Can it seal any Mylar bag?
It seals Mylar bags up to 12 in wide, including all of Harvest Right's sizes. Very thick or unusual bags may need a different heat setting. Run a test seal on a scrap bag first.
Why can't I just use a zip bag?
Zip closures aren't airtight enough for long-term storage, so oxygen and moisture slowly get in. A heat seal fuses the Mylar into a continuous barrier. For snacks you'll eat soon, a resealable bag's zipper is fine.
