PRO-MIX CPX AGTIV REACH Growing Medium - 15 lb (50L) Loose Fill - 70/30 Coco Coir & Perlite - OMRI Listed

PRO-MIX CPX AGTIV REACH takes the same coco coir base as CCX and blends in 30% horticultural-grade perlite, trading some water retention for faster drainage and quicker dry-back. Where CCX holds 70-75% water, CPX runs 60-65%, which is the difference growers reach for when they want the root zone to dry out faster between irrigation cycles.

It carries the same OMRI Listed certification and AGTIV REACH mycorrhizae as CCX, and the perlite fraction also lowers the bulk density of the finished mix, so filled containers are noticeably lighter to move than an equivalent volume of straight coco. The 15 lb (50L) loose fill bag is ready to use straight from the bag.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 70% coco coir / 30% perlite blend — trades some of coco's water retention for faster drainage, giving a 60-65% water retention profile with quicker dry-back between waterings.
  • Enhanced air-filled porosity — the perlite fraction opens larger pore spaces than pure coco, increasing oxygen availability at the root zone under high-frequency irrigation.
  • OMRI Listed — certified for organic production under USDA NOP and equivalent standards, same as CCX.
  • AGTIV REACH mycorrhizae — supports root colonization and nutrient uptake, carried through from Premier Tech's other PRO-MIX AGTIV REACH lines.
  • Lighter finished weight — perlite's lower bulk density than coco fiber means a filled container weighs less than the same volume of straight coco, cutting handling effort at scale.

Who Should Use This

CPX fits high-value crop producers and CEA operators running aggressive fertigation or high-frequency drip programs who want faster dry-back and stronger aeration than pure coco provides. It's also a practical fix for growers who've had overwatering issues with straight coco and want a lighter, better-aerated root zone.

About PRO-MIX

PRO-MIX comes from Premier Tech. The company has sold peat substrate since 1923. It introduced PRO-MIX in 1968. Premier Tech runs its own peat bogs. It also runs its own processing plants. Its distribution reaches North America and beyond. The company runs a biotechnology lab too. That's where AGTIV mycorrhizal inoculants get made. Premier Tech controls its own peat and coco supply. It also formulates the biological additives blended in. That combination helps standardize formulas like AGTIV REACH. The formula stays consistent across package sizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does CPX differ from CCX in day-to-day irrigation management?
CPX's 30% perlite fraction drains faster than CCX, so the root zone dries back sooner between irrigations (60-65% water retention versus CCX's 70-75%). That makes CPX the better fit for growers who want tighter control over wet/dry cycles or who run high-frequency drip programs with shorter, more frequent feedings.
Does the perlite in CPX change the substrate's pH?
No, horticultural-grade perlite is pH neutral and doesn't meaningfully shift the coco blend's overall pH. Growers should still monitor and adjust their nutrient solution pH as they would with any coco-based substrate, regardless of the perlite content.
Is CPX suitable for seedling or propagation use?
Yes, its lightweight, well-aerated structure works for seedling production and propagation plugs. The lower bulk density reduces resistance for emerging roots, and the perlite fraction helps prevent waterlogging in small propagation cells.
How much lighter is CPX than CCX in practice?
CPX ships at 15 lb (50L) versus CCX's 17 lb (50L) for the same volume, because perlite is less dense than coco fiber. On an operation filling hundreds or thousands of containers per cycle, that difference adds up in labor and handling cost over a full production season.
