See Inside the Root Zone Without Pour-Throughs, EC + Moisture

Irrigation and feeding decisions are often based on guesswork because checking substrate EC and moisture usually means pour-throughs or extractions. The Pulse Meter pushes 200 mm (8 in) stainless steel probes into the medium and returns EC, moisture and temperature in a single reading. Data goes straight to the Pulse app, so you can store and compare measurements over time.

It suits commercial growers fine-tuning irrigation and fertigation and experienced home growers who want data from their pots. It works in coir and mixed media; Bluelab notes it does not suit media with large voids such as perlite, or media that deforms permanently such as rockwool.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Three readings in one click — EC 0–15, moisture content 5%–70% by volume, and temperature 5–40°C.
  • Long stainless probes — 200 mm / 8 in probes reach deeper into the root zone.
  • App-based records — the Bluelab Pulse app stores and visualizes measurements on Android or iOS (Bluetooth 4.0+).
  • On-device LEDs — quick in- or out-of-range indication without opening the app.

Who Should Use the Pulse Meter

Growers using coir and mixed substrates who want to manage irrigation and feeding from root zone data. Bluelab specifies a minimum pot size of 2 litres / 0.5 gallon.

About Bluelab Pulse Meter

The Pulse Meter runs on 1x AA battery and ships with a depth gauge and probe tip cover and a miniature screwdriver. It carries a 1-year limited warranty, and the Pulse app is available in English, Spanish, Dutch, German and Korean.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does MC mean on the Pulse Meter?
MC stands for moisture content, shown as percent moisture by volume. It tells you how much water the substrate is holding at the probe. Tracking it helps you time irrigation.
Which growing media does it work in?
The Pulse Meter works in coir and mixed media and also in nutrient solution. It does not work in media with large voids, such as perlite, or media that can be permanently distorted, such as rockwool.
Why measure EC in the root zone?
Root zone EC shows how much salt is actually around the roots, which can build up or drop compared with the feed you apply. Seeing that trend helps you adjust feed strength or flush before plants show stress.
Does it need calibration?
An optional single-step calibration sets moisture content to your medium's water holding capacity. EC and temperature are read directly. Readings are temperature compensated.
